Produced in England during the mid-20th century (c. 1930s–1950s), this classic ceramic character jug was crafted by the renowned Beswick Ware pottery studio. The piece depicts the jovial coachman "Tony Weller" from Charles Dickens's The Pickwick Papers, with his name proudly embossed across the lower back of his brown coat. The hand-painted detailing features a deep green top hat, a bright red coat, and a green polka-dot cravat. Adding to its charm, a coachman's whip cleverly curves upward from his hand to form the jug's handle. The underside is stamped with the "Beswick Ware Made in England" maker's mark and features the embossed mold number "281". It is a quintessential display piece for collectors of English Toby jugs or literary memorabilia.

Details: The ceramic retains a bright, high-gloss glaze and vibrant coloring. There is a noticeable, small glaze chip on the outer edge of the green hat brim. The piece also exhibits standard, expected shelf wear on the unglazed base ring.
