Collection: IOD Moulds

Stop settling for "flat" furniture flips. If your projects lack the architectural depth of high-end vintage finds, IOD Moulds provide the professional-grade dimensional art solution. Whether you are up-cycling a thrifted dresser or creating mixed media gallery pieces, these tools ensure crisp detail retention that generic hobby-store moulds simply cannot replicate.

Mastering the Art of the Casting

When you transition from basic painting to furniture upcycling with 3D elements, the material you choose for your mould determines the finished "vibe." Unlike mass-market silicone, these moulds feature a patent-pending Micro-rim.This small raised edge allows you to "blade off" your material, ensuring a perfectly flat back that sits flush against your project surface without messy overages.Buying Guide: Air-Dry Clay vs. Casting Resin

The most frequent question we hear at our Poulsbo boutique is: "Should I use clay or resin?"

  • Air-Dry Paper Clay: Choose this for a "Found Object" look. It offers a charmingly distressed finish with slight shrinkage and organic cracking. Tip: Apply to curved surfaces while the clay is still damp (often called "slumping") to allow the casting to conform to the shape as it dries.
  • Epoxy Resin: Best for high-traffic pieces or when you need absolute consistency. Resin provides zero shrinkage and extreme durability. For the best results and to prolong the life of your silicone, always use a dedicated release agent or a light dusting of cornstarch.

Pro-Tip for Vertical Surfaces

If you are applying a heavy casting to a vertical drawer front, don't rely on glue alone. Use a strip of low-tack painter's tape to hold the piece in place until the adhesive sets. If you love the 3D look of moulds, you might also want to explore our IOD Stamps collection to add layered textures, or pair your casts with IOD Transfers for a complete mixed-media transformation.
